Establishing a Good Contact Lens Fit at Moorhead Vision Associates

It starts with a thorough eye exam to ensure the most up-to-date prescription and rule out any pre-existing conditions that could interfere with contact lens wear.

Fitting lenses to your lifestyle

We will determine the best-fitting lens based on your lifestyle needs and the shape and health of your eyes. In most cases, you’ll have the opportunity to try lenses on the same day as your exam. You may even go home with a few samples before making a final decision.

Follow-up fittings

Our Fargo/Moorhead Area team will follow up after the initial fitting and then make any necessary changes in fit or materials to get you the best possible result. We teach all our patients proper contact lens care and also possible consequences if proper care is not taken. Then we continue with long-term follow-up to monitor the condition of the lenses and to ensure that proper hygiene is being maintained.

Myopia Management

Disposable Contacts

Disposable contact lenses are generally considered to be far superior in comfort and wearability than hard and rigid lenses.

Eye Exams for Contact Lenses

A routine exam won't provide some of the measurements and testing that are required to determine if your eyes are suitable for contact lens wear, and to generate your contact lens Rx.

Bifocal and Multifocal Contact Lenses

Fortunately for those who don't like the look, feel or inconvenience of reading glasses, there is another option. Bifocal and multifocal lenses are also available in contact lenses in both soft and rigid varieties

Gas Permeable (GP) Contact Lenses

These rigid lenses aren't as popular or well-known as soft lenses, but they offer the advantages of durability, crisp vision, and high oxygen permeability.

Contact Lenses for the "Hard-to-Fit" Patient

Challenges such as astigmatism, presbyopia, keratoconus and dry eyes needn't be a barrier to contact lens wear, but they do require more time and patience.

Toric Contact Lenses for Astigmatism

"I can't wear soft contacts; I have astigmatism." This once-true statement is now simply a myth. We carry all of the top contact lens brands!

Contact Lens Care

Cleanliness is the first and most important rule of contact lens wear. Always wash and rinse your hands thoroughly. Use a fragrance, lotion, and oil free soap. Optical hand cleansers are available for purchase in our clinic. Dry your hands with a lint free towel to avoid any threads, fuzz, or stray fibers.

Insertion Guide

  • Wash, rinse, and dry your hands.
  • Always begin with the same eye.
  • Remove the contact lens from the storage case.
  • Place the lens on the tip of your dominant index finger, making sure the finger is dry.
  • Look at your contact lens. Make sure it is clean, free of debris, and looks like a bowl. See diagram below.
  • Use the middle finger of the dominant hand to hold the lower eyelid down.
  • Use the middle finger of the opposite hand to hold the upper lid against the eyebrow.
  • Avoid blinking.
  • Look at the mirror, tuck chin in, and set the contact lens on the center of the cornea.
  • Once the contact lens is on the eye, then look up, down, left, and right. Close the eyelid gently until the contact lens settles on the eye
